In this artwork, AI-generated digital flowers cannot bloom on their own—their existence is coded as a "permitted beauty." When viewers block the light sensor with their hands, shadows become a new kind of "sunlight," forcing the flowers to fade or shrink. Meanwhile, the return of light acts like a digital pardon, allowing the algorithm to recalculate their chance to blossom.
This is a metaphor about control: human gestures function like a creator’s switch, deciding the fate of these AI lives. It also questions our dependence on algorithms—these flowers are, in essence, "light parasites," surviving only on the light energy granted by the audience. And when people try to "tame" the light, they unknowingly become part of the system, trapped in a cycle of surveillance and intervention.
Technically, TouchDesigner’s real-time rendering and Arduino’s light-sensing work together to create this micro-theater of power dynamics. Every change in the flowers’ form represents a fleeting negotiation between human will and algorithmic autonomy.
